Valentine's Day

For Valentine's Day we had a nice low key night with the kids. Emily and I made Michael a platter of his favorite cookies. She put the sprinkles on every cookie! She's getting very good at little art projects. She was so excited to give it to him. She kept telling me how much daddy was going to love it. Unfortunately, he came home from work right when she woke up from her nap. As you can tell from the pics, she wasn't in a great mood! We ordered dinner and ate at the table by candlelight. The girls thought it was so much fun!

Allie's First Birthmark Treatment

We had another check-up on Allie's large birthmark with a pediatric dermatologist at Denver Children's. She informed us that the best time to get rid of port wine birthmarks is while kids are still little. It's painful but they get less treatments the younger they are. Basically, her marks are extra clusters of veins. They don't cause problems now but they can as she ages. Nobody ever put it like that! So, naturally we decided to get it taken care of as soon as possible! I think that it was harder on Michael, Em, and me than it was on her. We numbed her back with emla cream, which we have lots of experince using courtesy of Rachel. We put the cream all over her marks and then we had to wrap her up with saran wrap to keep it on there. Not very easy to do on a one-year old. The treatment is a quick laser treatment that feels like rubberbands hitting her skin. I don't think she could feel it due to the cream but she didn't like being held down and blindfolded. I think Michael got his work out trying to hold her in place for the 5 min. treatment! Her back looked awful afterwards for a few days. It looked like blisters under the skin but it never seemed to bother her. I think it bothered Emily way more because it looked so bad. She was very concerned about her little sis!

This is part of the mark pre-treatment. It still looks like a butterfly

As always in a good mood! This is her with the wrap.
